Brigantine woman gets six years in DUI that killed painter

  • News

A Brigantine woman was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday in a crash that killed a painter.

Bao "Joanna" Huynh, 36, was under the influence of numerous narcotics when she struck Hector Salgado at 12:17 p.m. June 26, 2021, as he was loading work supplies into his van while parked outside a work site.

The crash caused the van to collide with Salgado, killing the 54-year-old man instantly, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Salgado had just finished a painting job in Brigantine with his brother when he returned to get his ladder, according to a GoFundMe set up at the time to help with expenses.

Huynh was indicted last August, and has been in the Atlantic County Justice Facility since.

She pleaded guilty this past Aug. 10.

Huynh must serve at least 85 percent of her sentence under the No Early Release Act, or about five years one month and six days. She has credit for about 13 months.
