A burglary suspect released on a summons by Wildwood police is now jailed after committing a similar crime in his Gloucester County hometown.
Jay Riehl, 36, of Clayton, was arrested Friday evening in the burglary of a Wildwood residence earlier that day.
Police were called to the home in the 2700 block of Lake Avenue just after 3 a.m., for a burglary where the suspect was already gone, according to the report.
Officers obtained surveillance footage of the suspect entering the backyard and removing two paddle boards worth about $700, police said.
A man matching the suspect in the video was seen in the area of Garfield and Pacific avenues at about 7:30 that night.
Riehl was detained and later arrested on third-degree charges of burglary and theft, police said. He also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
The paddle boards were recovered, according to the report.
Riehl was released on a summons, with police citing bail reform for why they did not charge him on a warrant.
Three days later, Riehl was arrested in Clayton, and charged with second-degree burglary and criminal trespass. Police there charged him on a warrant, and he is currently in the Gloucester County Correctional Facility, records show.
