Atlantic City man had pounds of drugs and loaded gun, police say

  • News

An Atlantic City man who was allegedly supplying drugs throughout the county is now jailed on 28 new charges, including weapons offenses.

Diogenes Galvez, who turned 19 last week, had four pending drug cases when city detectives and the FBI raided his home Wednesday, where they found a loaded handgun, and more than two pounds of cocaine, 1½ pounds of methamphetamine and about 750 bags of heroin, Lt. Kevin Fair said.

Galvez also had about a pound of marijuana, 56 oxycodone pills and 21 bottles of promethazine, according to the charges.

An investigation led by Detective Ermindo Marsini brought detectives from the Special Investigations Unit along with the FBI to the 900 block of Lexington Avenue Wednesday, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.

Galvez, who is listed as Galvez-Balderramos on the warrant, was seen leaving the residence at about 11 a.m., and getting into a vehicle, Marsini writes in the report.

Police removed him from the vehicle and found 14 grams of cocaine and $526 on him, the affidavit states.

No one was inside the home when law enforcement went inside for a warranted search.

A loaded 9mm Taurus G2C semiautomatic handgun loaded with a large-capacity magazine containing 12 founds of ball ammunition and a hollow-point bullet in the chamber was found in the bedroom used by Galvez, the affidavit states. The serial number had been scratched out.

About 913 grams of crack cocaine, 722 grams of methamphetamine, 15 bricks of fentanyl/heroin, about 450 grams of marijuana, 21 16-ounce bottles of promethazine hydrochloride oral solution and 56 oxycodone-acetaminophen pills were found in the bedroom, according to the affidavit.

Police also found a digital scale and $4,976 in cash believed to be from drug sales.

The residence is within 1,000 feet of Pennsylvania Avenue School and 500 feet of Shore Park Apartments public housing, which resulted in additional charges.

Galvez's arrest was the result of a three-month investigation, Fair said.

But he seems to have been on law enforcement's radar even longer.

Galvez was first arrested Jan. 13, during a car stop in the 1700 block of Hummock Avenue, court records show.

He was charged with nine counts, including money laundering and possession of heroin, cocaine and prescription drugs.

Galvez was released on a summons and arrested eight days later for third-degree heroin possession.

Another car stop on Feb. 16, led to charges of third-degree possession of heroin and cocaine, along with several motor vehicle violations, including operating a motor vehicle while in possession of drugs.

Galvez was arrested a fourth time in May, for possession and manufacturing cocaine, and possession of a hypodermic needle.

His previous arrests all were put on summonses.

Galvez is now the Atantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
