An Egg Harbor Township man is charged with assault by auto after two hit-and-runs within a mile, police said.
Jason Marx, 44, was under the influence he rear-ended a 2016 Mazda CX5 driven by a 24-year-old township woman as they drove south on Somers Point-Mays landing Road near Kathy Lane at about 8:35 a.m., Lt. Larry Graham said.
Marx did not stop, and continued south, and wound up in a similar crash about a mile away, according to the report.
This time he rear-ended a 2020 Chevy Tahoe driven by a 57-year-old township man in the area of 1750 Somers Point-Mays Landing Road, Graham said.
Marx again fled the crash, but significant damage to his vehicle from the second crash caused it to stop on the bridge over Patcong Creek just before entering Somers Point.
The first driver was not injured, but driver of the Tahoe was taken to the hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the report.
Marx was charged with several motor vehicle violations, including leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence and failure to show license or registration.
He was release on a summons for assault by auto.
It's his second assault by auto charge it just more than a year, court records show.
Marx was charged last year after a hit-and-run in Somers Point causing serious bodily injury and property damage, according to court records.
That crash happened Sept. 17, 2022, at Pleasant Avenue and Shore Road, according to the police report.
He has a pending assault by auto charge in that case.
Traffic was detoured around the scene for about an hour while it was being investigated by Officers Robert Moran and Anthony Giannico, and Sgt. Edward Stearns. Somers Point police assisted
on scene with traffic control and investigation.
