Cigarettes sparked fire that displaced Atlantic City family, chief says

  • Public Safety

A back porch fire in Atlantic City was sparked by improperly discarded cigarettes, the fire chief said.

Firefighters were called to the 3000 block of Fairmont Avenue in the city's Chelsea section Monday morning, and found rear porch on fire.

They were able to contain the fire, but there was smoke and water damage, Fire Chief Scott Evans said.

Four adults and two children were displaced as a result. They will stay with family down the street, Evans said.
