An Atlantic City woman wanted for firing a gun was arrested after fleeing police and ditching a gun, according to her charges.
Kasheemah Valentine, 30, faces charges including possession of a weapon by a certain person not to possess a weapon.
Her criminal history includes escape from detention, robbery, theft and hindering, court records show.
Police were called to the 1500 block of C Morris Cain Place at about 9 p.m. Saturday for a ShotSpotter alert.
Evidence of gunfire was found, and officers determined that a woman had fire a shot before fleeing, Capt. Kevin Fair said.
A description of the suspect was given to officers.
At 7:25 the next morning, Officers Alex Torres and Francis Malloy found Valentine in the 1700 block of Atlantic Avenue, Fair said. She matched the exact description of the shooting suspect.
Valentine ran when the officers tried to speak with her, according to the report. As she ran, she removed a handgun from her waistband and threw it onto Atlantic Avenue.
The handgun was recovered, and Valentine was taken into custody.
She is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting a detention hearing set for Wednesday.
Valentine is charged with several weapons offenses, along with aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
She was the subject of a citizen complaint in April, alleging simple assault and possession of a weapon other than a gun, court records show.
