A Pleasantville man is accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend and then trying to cover up the crime with bleach and the story of a fall down the stairs.
Boris Lainez Rosales, 26, called Pleasantville police just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, saying his girlfriend fell down about 12 stairs and was unresponsive, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.
Leslianette Quintana Betancourt, 25, was found at the bottom of the stairs to the basement, where the couple lived in the home in the 100 block of West Edgewater Avenue.
The basement was in disarray with blood stains throughout, except not by the stairs where the victim's body was found, the affidavit states.
Both the basement and Lainez Rosales smelled of bleach. He also had various cuts on his hands, according to the affidavit.
Quintana Betancourt had trauma to her face, arms and abdomen, according to the report.
The affidavit also describes blood-stained evidence found outside the home.
A yellow bag with possible blood stains was found in Lainez Rosales' car.
In the backyard was a white trash bag containing duct tape with possible hair attached. There was also a baseball bat with possible blood stains.
The couple was heard arguing during the night, starting around 9:30 or 10 p.m., a witness told police.
The witness tried to go down to the basement to check on them at about 11 p.m., but was escorted back up the stairs by Lainez-Rosales, who said everything was fine, the witness said.
The witness was not identified. But the home is owned by Dania Rosales, property records show.
The victim had blunt-force trauma, the medical examiner told detectives. A contributing factor also was her placenta rupturing.
Quintana Betancourt was five months pregnant, the affidavit states.
Lainez Rosales, whose first name is spelled Borris in some records, is charged with one count of murder and fourth-degree tampering with evidence.
He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting his first court appearance. He was supposed to appear via video from the jail Tuesday afternoon but was "on a hold" and could not come, the court was told. No details were available.
Lainez Rosales was previously charged with assaulting two police officers and endangering a child in June of 2022, court records show.
He allegedly spit on one officer and hit him in the face, and kicking another who tried to take Lainez Rosales to a holding cell. He also allegedly threatened an officer and a family member who was trying to calm him down.
The outcome of that case was not immediately available.
