An Atlantic City man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the rape of his girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter.
Oscar Oberlino Gomez-Miralda, now 44, must serve all 25 years. He faced life in prison.
The mother started to have concerns after her daughter asked her not to leave her alone with the defendant, but would not say why, according to information released at his detention hearing last year. The couple had lived together for three years.
The video shows Gomez-Miralda entering the child's bedroom shortly after she wakes up, BreakingAC previously reported.
It shows Gomez-Miralda lie down next to the little girl and cover her with a blanket and remove her pajama bottoms as she plays on an iPad.
The details indicate the girl was raped.
He then pulls her pants back up, adjusts himself and leaves.
When the mother confronted Gomez-Miralda, he told her he could pay someone in Honduras to do something to her daughters if she reported him to police, the state alleged.
A few weeks before the woman spoke with detectives, Gomez-Miralda told her he would buy her a car if she got back together with him, according to the allegations.
She then blocked all communication.
The little girl was interviewed by a Spanish-speaking detective with the Prosecutor's Office and showed on a doll what Gomez-Miralda did to her.
Gomez-Miralda was sentenced under the the Lunsford Act, which requires a minimum of 25 years for crimes involving sexual assaults in which the victim is younger than 13. He also got seven years for endangering the welfare of a child, which would be served concurrent to the 25-year sentence.
He has credit for about 21 months, meaning he would be about 67 when he's released.
At that time, Gomez-Miralda is required to register under Megan's Law and would be subjected to lifetime sueprvision.
He remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending transfer to state prison.
