A Pleasantville man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend and then trying to cover is up will remain jailed.

Boris Lainez Rosales, 26, did not contest detention at a hearing Friday.

Public defender John Bjorklund indicated they may reopen the issue after receiving more information.

Leslianette Quintana Betancourt, 25, was "beaten essentially from head to toe," Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy told the judge.

Lainez Rosales initially claimed the woman fell down about 12 stairs and was unresponsive when he called 911 at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, BreakingAC previously reported.

The two lived in the basement of the home on West Edgewater Avenue.

Although the woman was found at the bottom of the stairs, there was no blood there, the affidavit states. Instead, there were bloodstains elsewhere in the room, the affidavit states.

Blood-stained clothing was found in Lainez Rosales' car and a blood-stained bat in the backyard, Levy said.

The basement and defendant smelled of bleach, according to the affidavit, which led to a charge of tampering with evidence.

Quintana Betancourt had trauma to her face, arms and abdomen, according to the report.  Blunt-force trauma and a ruptured placenta contributed to her death.

She was expecting a boy, according to a GoFundMe set up by the family.

BreakingAC previously reported a witness telling investigators that the couple was heard arguing during the night, starting around 9:30 or 10 p.m.

The witness tried to go down to the basement to check on them at about 11 p.m., but was escorted back up the stairs by Lainez-Rosales, who said everything was fine, the witness said.

The witness was not identified. But the home is owned by Dania Rosales, property records show.

Lainez Rosales, whose first name is spelled Borris in some records, will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
