A video showing a worker spitting into ice cream at a Pleasantville custard stand has garnered a lot of attention — and an apology from the featured woman.
The now-19-year-old woman issued a statement to BreakingAC, insisting that the tainted concoctions were not served and that it was years ago.
The video starts with a close-up of the teen girl smiling at the camera with two metal malt cups full of ice cream in front of her.
She then spits into one cup before making a deep hacking sound before spitting into the second cup. Behind her, another worker can be seen laughing.
The video quickly made the rounds on social media, as people recognized it as Main Event Custard, a well-known spot in Pleasantville.
It did not take long before the social media sleuths tracked her down
“Yes, that is me and I do take full accountability for my actions presented in the video,” she said. “I was a young 15-year-old girl who clearly made a big mistake. The other girl presented in the video was 13 years old at the time.”
After making the video, Delgado said, “I second-guessed it and (the other girl) remade the milkshakes.”
“We clean and sanitize everything in the shop,” she continued. “I am well aware that — then and now — this is wrong. I am deeply apologetic and do apologize to any and everyone who was affected by the video. And I never posted this video for laughs and clicks.”
“Looking back at the video today is really disturbing for me,” Delgado added.
Delgado said someone she was close with leaked the video.
A woman who was identified as that former friend denied she released it, and claims to have a court date with Delgado, but declined to give specifics.
BreakingAC reached out to Main Event’s owner but has not gotten a response.
Kim Swartz, who responded to one of the posts about the incident, said that the worker “was terminated immediately upon discovery. Joke or not, we do not take lightly to this.”
Delgado denies that is why she was fired. She says she was fired in September, “due to the fact that I stood up for myself after being bullied by another employee, which Shely (the owner, Michele Marie) knew about and did nothing about it.”
Neither Swartz nor the owner responded to messages seeking comment.
Delgado said the new attention has brought harassments and threats.
Pleasantville police and the Atlantic County Department of Health are investigating.
