Mays Landing man indicted in alleged grave stone scheme

  • Crime-Courts

A Mays Landing man was indicted Thursday in an alleged scheme to pretend he was selling headstones.

Jiolio “Joe” Cincotti, 71, represented himself as the owner of Atlantic Memorials in Mays Landing, and would sell headstones.

But he never provided the headstones nor returned the money, according to the charges of theft by deception and money laundering.

More than 30 people paid in between October 2020 and December 2023, the charges claim.

The amount of the alleged deception has grown since the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office first announced the cost at about $39,000 in May.

The alleged theft is not estimated at $50,000, the Prosecutor's Office wrote in a press release.

A new citizen complaint was made in reference to August, court records show.

Cincotti was charged on a summonses in all cases, and is not jailed.

Hamilton Township police investigated the case.
