Somers Point driver killed in EHT crash with allegedly DWI driver

  • Public Safety

A Somers Point man died after he was struck by a car heading the wrong way Monday night on Blackman Road in Egg Harbor Township.

Oriel Dixon, 38, of Egg Harbor Township, was heading north on Blackman around 9 p.m., when she crossed over into oncoming traffic, continuing into a southbound Honda CRV driven by Joseph Natale, Capt. Cherie Burgan said.

Natale, 72, suffered life-threatening injuries, and was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the report.

His front seat passenger, 28-year-old Tobias Natale, was hospitalized.

Dixon was charged with driving while impaired. She also had a juvenile boy in the vehicle at the time of the crash, Burgan said.

They both were evaluated for injuries by EMS.

She is additionally charged with reckless driving and careless driving, court records show. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

The Scullville Fire Company, Egg Harbor Township EMS, and AtlantiCare Medics assisted at the scene. The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office is conducting the investigation with the Egg Harbor Township Traffic Safety Unit.

Blackman Road was shut down for approximately four hours while the crash was being investigated and the scene cleared.

The crash is being investigated by township Officers Robert Moran and Kevin Brady, and Sgt. Edward Stearns of the Traffic Safety Unit.
