Atlantic City man pleads guilty in drug deaths of two British men

  • News

An Atlantic City man admitted to selling a deadly drug mix to two British tourists visiting the city in 2020.

Scott Jordan and Simon Gamble were found dead in Room 3241 on March 8, 2020, after the men spent a weekend in the resort while working in New York.

There were about 10 ripped white wax baggies and a line of a white powdery substance on a table. The baggies were found to contain a mix of heroin, fentanyl and 4-ANNP. They died of acute toxic effects of fentanyl and ethanol.

Tyrell Gist was arrested after surveillance video from Bally's Atlantic City connected him to the deaths. He has been jailed since June 15, 2021.

Gist, now 27, faces 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree strict
liability drug-induced deaths.

He would have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence under the No Early Release Act, or just more than 11 years.

Gist will have served more than three years when he is sentenced in May.

He also will be sentenced in two separate drug cases that happened five months after the deaths.

Gist admitted to possessing methamphetamine during a motor vehicle stop in Atlantic City on Aug. 2, 2020. He faces five years in that case, but it would run concurrent to the 13 years.

Less than two weeks later, Gist was seen conducting multiple drug deals in the 1700 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. He has since pleaded guilty to possessing about 12 grams of cocaine at that time. He also faces five years in that case, which also would run concurrent.

The case was investigated and prosecuted by the Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Unit of the
Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, with assistance from the Atlantic City Police Department.

Fatal overdoses in the county are investigated as crimes, often leading to strict-liability charges.
