Firefighters quickly got a blaze under control in Atlantic City's Venice Park on Saturday night.
"Engine 2 made an incredible, quick attack and knocked the fire down quickly," Fire Chief Scott Evans said.
The Hamilton Place fire did not spread to the second floor or exposures, he said.
The resident self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Engine 3, Rescue 1, Ladder 1 and Battalion 1 also responded, along with a deputy chief, Evans said.
Investigators were onscene to determine the cause.
