Atlantic City drug raid leads to drugs, three guns, two arrests

Two people were arrested Friday in an Atlantic City drug investigation that led to three handguns and a mixture of drugs, police said.

Jamil Miller and Kameesha Coppin were the targets of the investigation that led to a warranted search of a home in the 800 block of Mediterranean Avenue, Lt. Kevin Fair said.

Detectives found three handguns, multiple loaded handgun magazines and additional ammunition, along with more than seven grams of cocaine, 74 individual bags of heroin and items used in the manufacturing and distribution of narcotics, according to the report.

Miller, 36, previously was sentenced to five years in prison under a plea deal in two shootings from July 2016, court records show.

Miller, then 28, was hospitalized in one of those shootings, which happened July 14, 2016, in the 600 block of North Virginia Avenue.

His girlfriend, 37-year-old girlfriend Shavonne McKee, had been fatally gunned down 11 days earlier.

Miller pleaded to weapons offenses and was sentenced to five years in prison with 3½ years of parole ineligibility in 2018. He had already served more than a year in the jail at that point.

Miller, who now has a Bridgeton address, is back in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where he and Coppin are awaiting detention hearings.

Coppin, 36, of Atlantic City, does not appear to have a criminal history.

Both are charged with various drug and weapons offenses. Miler faces an additional charge of possession of a weapon by a certain person not allowed to possess a weapon.
