A Galloway Township animal hoarding case could have some happy endings.
Approximately 25 dogs and a cat were found in poor conditions with insufficient access to food and water Saturday.
Police were called to the home in the 100 block of Zurich Avenue for a follow-up investigation into an an animal complaint.
Investigators found a dead dog on the property along with more than two dozen living dogs and a cat.
Jason Millar, 23, of Wildwood Crest, identified himself as the owner and caretaker of the animals.
He was charged with cruelty to animals and placed on a summons. He could face more charges as the investigation continues.
The dogs were sent to the Humane Society of Atlantic County, where they will soon be available for adoption, Executive Director Steven Dash said.
Some of the dogs will be spayed and neutered Wednesday and Thursday.
"These are some of the nicest dogs, and will all find homes," he wrote in a Facebook post. "One young dog is completely blind but gets around fine with another dog. He is very sweet and can easily locate people by smell and hearing."
Dash said it's a good time to adopt since all local shelters are beyond capacity and need help.
Galloway Township police encourage anyone who witnesses or suspects abuse of animals to file a report with the department, who has trained humane law enforcement officers who handle these cases.
