Atlantic City man admits to Boardwalk shooting

  • Crime-Courts

An Atlantic City man admitted to shooting another man in the head in 2022.

Wesley Briscoe, now 20, faces a three-year sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree aggravated assault and fourth-degree charges of pointing a firearm and hindering apprehension.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the head on the Boardwalk at Montpelier Avenue just after 1 a.m. July 9, 2022.

An investigation that included surveillance video and witness statements found that Briscoe shot the victim after riding his bicycle to the Boardwalk.

Briscoe was arrested about two months later, after Officer Latray Butcher recognized Briscoe as being wanted in the shooting.

With assistance from Surveillance Center personnel, Briscoe was tracked to the first block of South Missouri Avenue, where he was stopped by Lt. Kevin Fair, Sgt. Mohammad Kaiser and Officer Marquez Jones.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Briscoe also admitted to hiding his clothing after the shooting to avoid detection by police.

He will remain in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, after Judge Pamela D'Arcy denied a motion by the defense to release him pending his sentencing in April.

Briscoe would have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence under the No Early Release Act, or 3½ years.
