A Bridgeton man is jailed after he allegedly fled police twice during the investigation of an armed robbery.
Jacob Griffiths, 40, first fled police just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, after a Millville police officer tried to investigate his vehicle as part of an investigation into a robbery the day before, according to the charges.
Griffiths fled Bluebird Lane with a female passenger, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office. The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons after Griffiths sped and ran a stop sign.
Millville police spotted the vehicle again a short time later in the parking lot of the Wawa in Dorchester, Maurice River Township, according to the report.
Griffiths drove away as police tried to take him into custody, dragging a Millville officer a short distance, the charges claim.
He struck a pedestrian in the area of the fuel pumps as he fled, then crashed at the intersection of Route 49 and Union Road.
The officer, pedestrian and those in the involved vehicles were taken to Inspira Medical Center. None of the injuries was life-threatening.
Griffiths was arrested and charged with several counts, including aggravated assault and robbery and weapons possession of the original crime. No details were released about the robbery.
The investigation is ongoing by N.J. State Police.
