A former Galloway Township resident who was released from prison in June was allegedly found with a loaded gun after giving police a fake name Tuesday.
Samad Dudley, 22, was a passenger in a car stopped by Atlantic City Detectives Alberto Valles, Eric Evans and Troy Grams, who had just seen the driver engaged in a drug deal, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Dudley at first gave police a false name. It turned out that he had a warrant for his arrest.
Court records show Dudley has an outstanding drug case from November, on charges of possession and distribution of heroin, along with hindering by providing false information.
Dudley was released from South Woods State Prison in June, after serving more than three years on gun and drug charges from a 2019 case in Pleasantville when he was 18 years old.
At that time, Dudley was arrested after losing control of his car during a brief chase as he refused to stop for police.
He struck a fence in front of two homes on the 100 block of West Adams Avenue, striking the porch of one home and then fleeing.
Dudley's previous sentence also included a charge of failure to register as a sex offender. The details of the original charge were not clear, likely because it happened when he was a juvenile.
His current address was given as Sicklerville, Camden County. It was not clear if he is properly registered there.
The driver of the car in Wednesday's Atlantic City arrest was given a summons on the drug charges related to the initial drug deal, according to the report.
Najee Roberts, 33, of Ewing, Mercer County, also was charged with loitering.
He was released from Bayside State Prison in February 2022, after serving time for a 2018 robbery causing bodily injury and a 2015 drug case, both out of Atlantic County, according to state Department of Corrections records.
Dudley is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
