  • News

Firefighters were able to contain a smoky fire at the Goodwill Store & Donation Center in Egg Harbor Township on Monday.

Police were called to the store at 6701 Black Horse Pike at about 1:30 p.m., and arrived to find smoke coming from the building while employees attempted to evacuate the business, Lt. Ernest Dunson said.

Multiple fire engines, ladder trucks and personnel from Cardiff and Bargaintown volunteer fire companies rsponded.

Fire personnel faced heavy smoke, but were able to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring businesses, according to the report.

Fire companies from Northfield and Pleasantville were also on scene to support existing fire personnel.

Smoke and water damage destroyed all of the store’s inventory, according to the Goodwill website.

The store is hoping the community will help rebuild its inventory.

It is encouraging donations of clothing, accessories, shoes, toys, housewares and more.

The Egg Harbor Township donation center, in the rear of the building, is open with normal business hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Egg Harbor Township Fire Inspection Unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
