A Wildwood man is accused of sexually assaulting a child younger than 13.
Jose Lopez-Ortiz, 27, was arrested Saturday, a day after an investigation was started by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Wildwood Police Department.
He is charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, and second-degree charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Lopez-Ortiz is in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
He could face 25 years to life under in the first-degree charge under the Jessica Lunsford Act, which calls for longer terms in certain cases involving victims younger than 13.
