A Woodbine man and woman are accused of endangering a child after police allegedly found the girl living in deplorable conditions.
Kevin Storms, 35, and Wanda Storms, 64, are charged with one count each of endangering the welfare of a child, after police were sent to the Macellaro Road home for a well-being check Sunday, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.
The home was cluttered with garbage and without heat, fuel or hot water, the investigator wrote. Neither the home's shower nor toilet worked.
Wanda Storms, who was home when police came, explained that the condition of the home was the result of disputes with the landlord, the affidavit states.
Kevin Storms and the girl were asked to go to the Child Advocacy Center in Cape May Court House, where the girl was interviewed by a member of the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office, according to the affidavit.
She described the home as gross, saying spiders and flies crawl on her while she sleeps, and that she cannot take a shower or got to the bathroom. Her age was not released.
Both Wanda and Kevin Storms "acknowledged that the living conditions were unacceptable for a ... child," the investigator wrote.
The Stormses were released on summonses.
The investigation is ongoing, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said, urging anyone with information to contact his office's Special Victims Unit at 609-465-1135, or anonymously through the Prosecutor’s Office website at cmcpo.tips or through the Cape May County Sheriff's Tip Line at cmcsherrif.net and clicking on anonymous tip.
Kevin Storms also has a pending case from 2020, for allegedly threatening a former girlfriend, according to court records.
Storms was sending the woman harassing and threatening text messages, the woman told police Sept. 18, 2020, according to the affidavit of probable cause in that case. She said that Storms had also driven by the residence where she was staying twice.
State Police who responded found Storms parked in his vehicle a short distance from where the woman was staying, the affidavit states.
The woman told police she did not want to pursue charges or a restraining order, hoping that them talking to Storms would stop the unwanted contact, the report states.
But the next day, she went to the State Police Woodbine Barracks to say the contact had escalated, including threats to harm her, saying that law enforcement would not be able to stop him.
Text messages and voicemails captured the threats, which included him allegedly telling the woman if he caught her or her boyfriend alone, "You're done" and "You'll be missing forever."
