A rally for former President Donald Trump turned deadly Saturday evening.

The one-time Atlantic City casino owner had just turned his head as he spoke in Butler, Penn., at about 6:15 p.m., when shots were heard.

Trump grabbed his right ear and then went down, surrounded by Secret Service.

“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin," he said in a statement posted online. "Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pa., was identified as the attempted assassin.

Secret Service "neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased," according to a statement issued by Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the U.S. Secret Service.

A rally goer was killed and two others critically wounded Guglielmi said.

“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” the 78-year-old presumptive Republican presidential nominee said in his first statement after being rushed to a local hospital.

It is believed Crooks fired multiple shots from an elevated position outside the venue.

“My thoughts and prayers are with former President Trump and everyone affected at his rally today," U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, D-NJ, said in an emailed statement. "I am glad he is safe. Our democracy has no tolerance for political violence.”

Congressman Jeff Van Drew also put out a statement.

"Our prayers are with President Trump and the families of those killed and injured in today's  senseless act of violence," he said "President Trump has always shown unwavering resilience and leadership in the face of adversity — from impeachment to indictment, arrest, and now attempted assassination — he consistently rises above. Regardless of political stance or personal feelings, violence is never justified in any circumstance. God bless President Trump, and may God bless America."
