Video shows Atlantic City officer rescue teen, pets from fire

  • Public Safety

An Atlantic City police officer kicked in a door and rescued a teen and three pets from a fire last month.

Police released body camera footage from Officer Riley Flynn that shows the scene just before 1 a.m. May 26, in the 800 block of North Maryland Avenue.

"I'm trying to bust down this window, I can't do anything," one woman is heard saying as another responds, "It's all smoke."

Flynn is heard asking if they have seen flames, which they tell him they have.

I"m going to try to kick your door in, OK?" he asks, then makes entry.

"No, no, wait for the Fire Department," someone can be heard calling as Flynn goes into the smoke-filled residence.

He heads upstairs, where he finds the 17-year-old girl trying to get out a window. He then walks her down.

Riley goes back in and gets two dogs, and then — with intermittent coughs — goes back for a cat.

The Atlantic City Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire that originated in the kitchen.

“I commend Officer Flynn for his quick actions in not only rescuing a teenager, but also going back inside to rescue the animals who I know are part of their family,” Chief James Sarkos said.
