An Atlantic City man was indicted Tuesday in the hit-and-run death of a Galloway Township teen.
Everett Williams, 52, is accused of striking the 17-year-old on the White Horse Pike in Absecon, and fleeing the scene without rendering aid.
Police were called to the are near the Executive Lodge east of Turner Avenue just after 9 p.m. Feb. 17, police said.
The 17-year-old, identified only by the initials J.J., was struck in the westbound lane.
An investigation led to Williams being charged April 25, two days before his 52nd birthday.
Williams was indicted on a second-degree charge of leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, and third-degree charges of removal of a vehicle identification number, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and being involved in a motor vehicle crash resulting in the death of a person.
His criminal record dates back decades, court records show. He has regularly driven after his license was revoked, according to numerous violations dating to 1990.
Williams was paroled March 7, 2023, after serving part of a five-year sentence on drug charges from 2019, Department of Corrections records show.
He remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, following a detention hearing last month.
