The public is invited to join community leaders to walk Atlantic City in the second annual Gun Violence Awareness Community Walk.
The walk begins at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Browns Park, and aims to highlight the devastating impact gun violence while reinforcing "our collective commitment to preventing these tragedies," according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, host of the event.
Joining in the collaborative effort is the Attorney General's Office, Atlantic City Police Department, Coalition for a Safe Community, the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, the NAACP Atlantic City Branch and the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office.
Speakers will address the issue, followed by a walk through Stanley Holmes Village.
The walk is meant not only "to take a united stand against gun violence, but to show support for those victims and victim survivors who have been affected by gun violence."
“On behalf of the men and women of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, we are walking united in the name of peace, justice and a safer tomorrow," Prosecutor William Reynolds said. "Everyone’s presence is a testament to our commitment to end gun violence and protect our communities. Let our footsteps echo the urgent call for change to end gun violence, especially involving our youth.”
Reynolds said his office "is committed to working with law enforcement, community organizations, and the public to reduce gun-related crimes and pursue justice for those affected."
