Ventnor checkpoints to help combat drunken driving

  • Public Safety

Ventnor police will combat driving under the influence with checkpoints this summer.

The checkpoint will be partly funded by Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds, which is collected by the Municipal Court from those found guilty of driving under the influence.

Additional funding is provided by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers from allied Atlantic County police departments will assist with the checkpoints.

The checkpoint will be set up in a high visibility area to give the intoxicated driver the impression of a greater risk of being caught, which is done in hopes of discouraging drinking and driving.

Officers who have conducted the checkpoints in previous years report that most people are using designated drivers.

The checkpoints real success will be when no arrests are made, police said, as prevention is the main goal.
