Wildwood police put stop to pop-up party

  • Crime-Courts

Wildwood police took a pre-emptive strike against an unsanctioned event set for this weekend.

Social media posts promoted the beach pop-up party.

Police said they are aware and have identified the organizers, who they say have canceled the event.

If it does wind up going forward, plans in conjunction with local and state agencies are "in place to promptly shut (it) down," police said.

"We encourage all rental property owners and motel owners in Wildwood to use extra precautions when renting during this weekend," according to a post on the Wildwood Police Department's Facebook page. :These groups are known to take over rental properties and cause property damage. We will provide additional information to the public as warranted."

An unsanctioned car rally in the city in 2022, proved deadly, with one crash killing two people.

Gerald White is currently serving a 25-year sentence in that case.

Another crash into a golf cart seriously injured a Williamstown man.

Eryk Wnek's charges of aggravated assault and assault by auto are still pending.
