Margate, Longport community groups award college scholarships

College students from Margate and Longport received scholarships to continue their education.

The Herb Stern Longport Scholarship Fund awarded $26,500 to 15 students who graduated from the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School four or more years ago.

The Margate Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association awarded $4,200 in scholarships to seven students who also graduated from Tighe or are the children of Margate residents.

    The Margate Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association presented seven $600 scholarships to local students during the Board of Commissioners meeting Thursday, June 20, 2024.
 
 

Julianna Duff, Gracie Pierce, Kelse Cooke, Julian Valentino, Brian Garrabrant, Franchesca Ritzel and Jordyn Ricciotti were the recipients of the FMBA’s O’Hara-McCormick Memorial Scholarship. Some of the students were on hand Thursday, June 20 to receive awards presented during the Margate Board of Commissioners meeting.

  • Duff, who graduated from Ocean City High School, will attend the University of Rhode Island to study business.
  • Pierce is headed to East Carolina University where she is pursuing a degree to become a physician assistant.
  • Cooke, also a graduate of OCHS, will be attending Duquesne University to study speech pathology.
  • Valentino, who graduated from Atlantic County Institute of Technology, is headed to Rutgers University to study computer science.
  • Garrabrant, who graduated from OCHS, is going to Georgetown University to study political science and chemistry.
  • Ritzel, a graduate of OCHS, will go to the University of Tennessee where she will study business.
  • And Ricciotti, who graduated from Mainland Regional High School, is going to the University of Connecticut where she will study allied health science.


    The Herb Stern Longport Scholarship Fund presented $26,500 in scholarships to students who are headed to college or currently enrolled in college or graduate school during the Board of Commissioner meeting Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
 
 

Members of the Longport scholarship fund took turns Wednesday presenting awards to students who were available to attend the Board of Commissioners meeting. The recipients are high school graduates entering college in the fall, or currently enrolled in college or graduate school.

  • Jackson Agnellini will enter Virginia Tech in the fall to study finance.
  • His brother Pacifico Agnellini is attending the University of South Carolina where he is also studying finance and real estate.
  • Eva Engel, who attends the University of Tampa, is studying visual and fine arts.
  • Raquel Gresham is in graduate school at Thomas Jefferson University where she is studying to become a Certified Nurse Midwife.
  • Jonah Hammerstedt attends Medical College of Jefferson University where he is studying to become a physician.
  • Tyler Lawler, who is attending the University of South Carolina, will continue to study business and finance.
  • Alessandra Lucasti is enrolled at Charleston South Carolina where she is studying to become a plastic surgeon.
  • Sophia Mammucari will attend Harvard University in the fall to study educational social work.
  • Jake Meli, who will attend Villanova University, plans to study finance and computer science.
  • Jake Schaivo is going to St. Joseph University in the fall to study physics and business.
  • Birdie Stewart, who attends the College of Charleston, is studying finance and computer science.
  • Kallen Tripician, who currently attends Wesleyan University, is studying software and environmental subjects with an emphasis on medicine.
  • Macey Voltri is headed to Lynn University to study farming and business economy.
  • Madison Voltri will also go to Lynn University but has yet to decide on a major.
  • And Nick Volpe, who is attending University of South Carolina, is studying to become a physician.
