Mom finds heroin bundle lying on ground at Galloway playground

  • News

Jill Burke's toddler is at the stage where she picks up everything.

So the mom of four is always on the lookout to see what might be in her youngest's path.

But scanning the ground at Galloway Township's Imagination Station, she wasn't expecting a bundle of heroin.

Recognizing it as drugs, Burke carefully picked up the packet and placed it on the picnic table nearby, warned those with her and called the non-emergency police number.

An officer arrived, and it was proven to be a stack of wax folds of heroin, Lt. Mark D'Esposito confirmed to BreakingAC.

"It's surprising," said Burke, who recently moved to Florida from Galloway. "Anyone could have picked it up."

She said she asked the officer if they would have a K-9 dog search for more.

He said they likely would, but when no one is there.

Burke's friend then shared the experience to Facebook, looking to warn others.

"I actually would have never known that it as drugs," Nyssa Beckman told BreakingAC. "I would've thought it was just a piece of trash.

"This experience has me researching what different paraphernalia looks like so I can better protect my kids," added the Egg Harbor Township mom. "Imagination Station is a favorite of my kids, so we are there quite a lot."

Burke is hoping it will be a warning to others.

"Make sure everyone is vigilant," she said, "especially when you have little ones at the park."
