Plan your weekend in Atlantic County

  • Things To Do

Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation is back with Jazz on the Beach!

These free Thursday concerts at Kennedy Plaza start this week and run through September.

All you need to do to catch the show is be on the Boardwalk between Mississippi  and Georgia avenues at 7 p.m. Thursdays. If it happens to be raining at concert time, the show moves indoors to the Claridge.

Pro tips: There is seating at Kennedy Plaza. However, seasoned attendees bring comfy folding chairs, snacks and beverages. If you have complementary casino parking, use it. Surrounding street parking is available. If you ride your bike, you can keep it with you at the show for safe keeping.

Each show has a different headliner. Additionally, shows will include a local favorite like Gina Roche and Angela Burton.

Why the name?

If you don’t already know, Chicken Bone Beach is a strip of shore on Missouri Avenue.

The name was in reference segregated beachgoers who needed to pack lunch as they were not welcome in dining establishments. Now, the name has been reclaimed as a source of pride with historical value.

If you don’t already, please like and follow Chicken Bone Beach on socials and visit the Facebook page to see the full schedule of artists performing on Thursdays.

If you want to rock

Even though the last original member died in 2023, the band lives on!

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album this Friday.

Made famous for smash hits like "Gimme Three Steps," "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird," you can’t leave this band out of any discussion regarding the American songbook, rock anthems or the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time (Rolling Stone has them on the list at 95).

Turn your Saturday night into a Ballroom Blitz with Sweet at the Golden Nugget.

This British rock band from the '70s with high-pitched vocals and a touch of glam has sold more than 55 million copies of their albums and have gone gold numerous times.

Make a night of it.

This venue has fabulous marina views of the city, several different restaurants offering Happy Hour and walkable foot paths to neighboring casinos Harrah’s or Borgata.

Find information about the show HERE.

Red, White and Blue … berries

Early risers can head out of the city to nearby Hammonton for the 38th Annual Red, White & Blueberry Festival on Sunday.

Just show up and enjoy free admission, free parking and free entertainment.

Of course, there will be plenty of vendors on hand selling all things blueberry.

In past years I have driven home with blueberry hot sauce, jelly, turnovers and whole flats of our state’s fruit.

There will be a DJ and local band Stealing Savannah playing live music. You can also look for crafters and a juried art show.

Don’t miss this great annual event. Trust me. You could use the antioxidants!

Booming success

North Beach Atlantic City is sparking off fireworks to welcome in summer for the fourth year at 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Look to the Steel Pier, Resorts Casino Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, Showboat, and Ocean Casino Resort for the best viewing areas. The venues on Tennessee Avenue are also a sponsor.

Check out the great venues of NOBE this weekend! Find them on socials HERE.

Just For Laughs

The big headliner this weekend is none other than Dave Chappelle appearing at Hard Rock for two shows on Friday.

According to the name of the show, "It’s a Celebration B!%?#&$!"

Hopefully the self-proclaimed GOAT among comedians is in better spirits than when I saw him there shortly after he was jumped on stage.

He was still working through that trauma last time he was here. He deserves a chance to celebrate after that.
