A Vineland man was charged with drunken driving in a crash that critically injured a pedestrian Thursday night.

Richard Earl III, 40, was driving a Ford Transit van north on North Main Street in Vineland, when he struck a pedestrian at about 7:20 p.m., according to the police report.

Gurmeet Singh, 51, also of Vineland, sustained life-threatening injuries, and was flown to Cooper University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

An investigation found Earl was under the influence of alcohol, police said.

He was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, possession of open alcohol containers in a motor vehicle, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and driving while unlicensed.

Earl was also cited for driving with an expired license in December, court records show.

The investigation by Officer Christian Morales is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Morales at 856-691-4111, ext. 4942.
