Somers Point police identify pedestrian, driver in fatal crash

Somers Point police have identified two people involved in a fatal pedestrian crash Saturday.

James Cipollina, 72, of Manassas, Va., was fatally struck while walking across Route 52 near the Econo Lodge, Chief Robert Somers told BreakingAC.

The man and his wife were not in the crosswalk when they crossed at about 6:50 p.m., according to the report.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was not injured.

The driver, a 75-year-old Somers Point reside4nt Dennis Sampson, stayed at the scene.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, Somers said.

The investigation is ongoing.
