The Atlantic County Office of Emergency Preparedness is updating its emergency alerts notification system.
The system sends out automated emergency alerts call, email or text message.
“The emergency alert notification system is a valuable and potentially lifesaving resource for residents, businesses and second homeowners in Atlantic County,” Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson said. “Emergencies can happen at any time.
"With hurricane season beginning June 1, now is an ideal time to register for this important service,” he added.
The contract with a new vendor will save taxpayers $8,900 the first year and more than $58,000 over five years, according to Levinson.
The new system, provided by OnSolve Code Red, may be used for emergency alerts that require individuals to do things like evacuate, shelter-in-place or boil water, as well as incidents involving missing persons, significant transportation impacts, and police or fire activity.
The alerts are provided as a free service to registrants, however standard text messaging rates and other charges may apply.
Click here to register. The registration page can also be accessed by texting ATLCO-OEM to 24639.
An email address is required for account registration. Those without an email address may create one using free services such as Gmail at google.com or Outlook at Microsoft.com. Once registered, you may select the method you would like to receive alerts, such as email, phone or text message.
Individuals or businesses that previously registered with the Atlantic County Emergency Notification System should re-register to ensure all information in the system is current and accurate.
After completing the registration, participants are strongly encouraged to the number 206-536-3695 as “Atlantic County Alerts” in their phones. Texts will come from 24639.
