Project Prom is dressing girls for free this weekend

  • News

Project Prom is holding its annual pop-up shop event this weekend.

The nonprofit gives Atlantic County girls a chance to choose the dress of their dreams with jewelry, shoes and accessories free for prom night.

Founder and Chair Rene Kane started the annual event in 2014, after a Facebook post seeking a prom dress made her realize her two daughters' expensive prom dresses were just sitting in a closet with no use.

Project Prom now is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City to showcase programming at the club that empowers young women and share resources with the teens who will be shopping for gowns.

The Boys and Girls Club will be at the event with information on programs such as SMART Girls, which includes dynamic sessions, field trips and mentoring to help girls build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, getting good health care and developing positive relationships.

The event will be held at Kensington Furniture at 200 Tilton Road in Northfield. There will be 12 personalized fitting rooms.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m Monday.
