A Galloway Township officer lost his hair but won lots of young fans after helping raise money to fight childhood cancer.
Officer Alex Bennett is a Cops in Schools officer at Roland Rogers Elementary School.
So when the students and staff there challenged him to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, he was ready to shave his beloved mustache for the cause.
St. Baldrick's has raised more than $342 million for childhood cancer research since 2005.
"I was instantly interested in donating to a great cause!" he wrote on his donation page. "After a bit of thought, I decided that I would shave my head as well, if I could reach a high donation amount."
After asking around, he found out that a good amount was between $1,000 and $1,500.
"So, because bald is NOT beautiful on me, I went with $2,000," he wrote.
He wound up with a tally of $2,342.
There was a countdown from five, and his head was shaved.
Then, it was time for the mustache.
The officer put his hands to his face and gave the mustache one last swipe as the countdown went again.
When the facial hair was gone, he felt the area again, then put both hands to each side of his now-bald head.
He then picked up the fallen hair on his lap, as he feigned sadness. But it seemed the kids' cheers couldn't help but make him beam.
