Atlantic City ready to gain 33 firefighters

  • Public Safety

The Atlantic City Fire Department should have 33 new firefighters by the end of the week.

The recruits are set to graduate Friday.

Mayor Marty Small takes the hose as he and others fight a fire during training.

Mayor Marty Small visited the academy recently, and even took lead on the hose as he and several rescruits headed into a controlled fire.

“I know you’re just embarking on your journey,” he told them. “Make sure everyone makes it. It’s up to each and every one of you to make sure. I’m proud of you. Keep working hard.”

The class includes 25 Atlantic City residents, six from Pleasantville and two from Brigantine.

The 12-week training takes place at the Anthony “Tony” Canale Fire Training Center in Egg Harbor Township.

Another 11 recruits will graduate in six weeks.
