Galloway tattoo shop helps police track down burglary suspect

A Pleasantville man charged in a string of burglaries in Atlantic and Camden counties was arrested with the help of information provided by a Galloway Township tattoo parlor.

Vito Anderson, 38, already had pending summonses for burglaries out of Northfield and Absecon when he was charged in seven cases out of Haddonfield, Camden County, court records show.

All of the cases were within the last month.

Galloway police were called to the Gold Leaf Tattoos on the White Horse Pike on Monday for the report of a burglary, Lt. Mark D'Esposito said.

The suspect in forced entry into the business, and removed various pieces of tattoo equipment, according to the report..

Gold Leaf representatives came to police the next day with additional intelligence they received related to the burglary, D'Esposito said.  

Using this new information, Gold Leaf personnel and township police identified a suspect, according to the report.

A surveillance operation in Atlantic City's Chelsea Heights section led to Anderson being positively identified, D'Esposito said.

Anderson was found in possession of a tattoo gun when he was arrested, according to the report.

Additional stolen items were found when the Atlantic City home where he was  temporarily living was searched, D'Esposito said.

“This is another example of police and the public working together to fight crime in our community,” Police Chief Richard Barber said. “Continuing to build trust and communication with our business owners remains a top priority for our Police Department.”

Anderson was charged with third-degree burglary, along with fourth-degree charges of theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief. He also was jailed on seven outstanding warrants out of Haddonfield.

Galloway Township police thanked the Gold Leaf Tattoo staff for their communication and assistance with the investigation.
