Mays Landing bicyclist killed in crash

A Mays Landing bicyclist died in a crash Friday night.

Arthur Herz, 61, was struck as he entered the westbound lanes of the Black Horse Pike in Hamilton Township, police said.

He was not wearing a helmet and pronounced dead at the scene around milepost 45.5.

Luca Scotto, 21, of Blackwood, Camden County, was traveling west in a Jeep Cherokee when the bicyclist entered the lanes and made impact at about 8:20 p.m., according to a preliminary investigation.

Scotto was injured and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus for evaluation.He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The road was shut down for about four hours while the scene was investigated.

The Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad, AtlantiCare Paramedics, Laureldale Fire Department, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the New Jersey Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
