An Egg Harbor City man with a history of thefts is back in jail in a string of thefts from Egg Harbor Township shoppers.
Vincent Saxon, 56, is charged in three separate thefts, Sgt. Brett Fair said Monday.
Police received separate reports during April and May from victims who said their personal belongings were stolen while shopping at local establishments along the Black Horse Pike in the township's Cardiff and Farmington sections, Fair said.
In some cases, the offender used the victim’s bank cards to try to buy things at other businesses.
Detective Robert Sheppard investigated, and identified Saxton as the suspect.
Saxon was charged Thursday on several counts of theft and related offenses.
He was arrested Saturday, and additionally charged with possession of crack cocaine, court records show.
Saxon was released from Bayside State Prison on Oct. 10, after serving four years for a string of similar crimes.
He appeared in court briefly Monday, when he was told the state filed a motion to detain him. That is scheduled for Wednesday.
Saxon remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Township police used this case to remind the public to remain vigilant and attentive to their surroundings in order to better deter thieves.
"This agency is committed to fully investigating these matters and will ensure those offenders, such as Mr. Saxon, are held to account for their unlawful actions," Fair said.
