An Atlantic City man who was released from prison in February was arrested with a loaded gun following an attempted carjacking, according to new charges.
Officer Andy Nunez-Santos was stopped by a woman at 1:10 Saturday morning, saying an armed man tried to take her vehicle earlier.
The suspect approached her in the area of Bellevue and Pacific avenues, and tried to get in her vehicle, she told police. Her child was in the backseat at the time.
It was not clear how she avoided the attack.
She did not immediately call 911, but later located the officer, Capt. Kevin Fair said.
Nunez-Santos got a description of the suspect, which was given to officers in the area.
Sgts. Christian Ivanov and Daniel Arra saw the suspect at Florida and Pacific avenues, and he fled, Fair said.
Tuwan Gainer, 31, was caught and continued to resist arrest, according to the report.
He was found in possession of a loaded handgun.
Garner was released from prison in Feb. 7, after serving time for unlawful possession of a weapon out of Burlington County and theft out of Camden County, records show.
He is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on charges of carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, endangering the welfare of a child, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.
