Atlantic City driver allegedly had gun and drugs in vehicle

  • Crime-Courts

A car stop led to a loaded handgun and drugs, Atlantic City police said Friday.

Detectives Alberto Valles, Eric Evans, Troy Grams and Christopher Dodson were patrolling Pacific Avenue just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, when they stopped a vehicle at Arkansas Avenue, Capt. Kevin Fair said.

K-9 Officer Melvin Murray and his narcotics-detection partner, Jynx, arrived. The dog then gave a positive indication for the presence of drugs, according to the report.

The detectives searched the vehicle and found a bookbag with a loaded handgun, 18 grams of cocaine, 43 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia used in the distribution of narcotics, Fair said.

Anthony Ford Jr., 20, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a large-capacity magazine, unlawful possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of possession with intent to distribute (two counts), and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing set for Monday.
