The Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton will celebrate its first Dia de los Muertos on Friday with the traditional music, dancing and food.
The free event also will face painting, arts and crafts activities, and food, drinks and pastries by Taqueria Rendon and Pleasantville Diner.
There will also be the announcement of the winners of the ofrenda contest.
The ofrenda, or altar, is the centerpiece of the Day of the Dead celebration, when it's believed the souls of the deceased return to visit their families.
The altars are traditionally adorned with photos, momentos and candles.
Nine altars are on display at the Arts Garage.
Prizes will be awarded for most traditional, most creative and community favorite.
The celebration runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the garage at 2200 Fairmount Ave.
