The owner of a Galloway Township gymnastics studio is accused of having sexual relations with a girl younger than 16,
Matthew Shriver, 51, of Brigantine, faces several charges including first-degree aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and tampering with evidence.
Shriver and his wife, Jennifer Jones-Shriver, own Everest Gymnastics and Tumbling on Jimmie Leeds Road.
Galloway Township police began investigating after receiving a report of a man engaging in sexual activity with a juvenile girl, police said.
Cell phone evidence confirmed the victim's statements, according to the report. Search warrants then were obtained for Shriver's cell phone, personal vehicle and the business.
Additional corroborating evidence was discovered and Shriver was arrested.
He has been in the Atlantic County Justice Facility since Sunday night, records show. He will stay there pending a detention hearing.
Shriver was a girls team coach at another business starting in 2001, his LinkedIn shows. But he has not worked there in several years.
A post on Everest Gymnastics and Tumbling Center's Facebook page announced that all classes for the Galloway location were canceled for Monday night.
"We are sorry for the inconvenience, but all classes are canceled for tonight: Monday, November 18th," it read.
That post was gone hours later, and a new one addressed the "highly sensitive events."
It insists that "the accused is no longer affiliated with this establishment. All ties are cut, and he will no longer be permitted to be on or within close proximity of the business."
It goes on to say that "the sole owner, Jennifer Jones, does not stand for this behavior."
Until some point before Tuesday evening, the site had included both owners, including Matthew and Jenn Shriver. Now it seems the accused has been wiped from the site, including his wife returning to only her maiden name.
Galloway Township police said they remain dedicated to investigating any and all allegations related to sexual assault, especially when the victim is a juvenile.
Anyone looking to report an incident can contact Galloway police at 609-652-3705.
