A Galloway Township man with a history of speeding infractions was sentenced to three years in prison for a crash that killed an Ocean City man in 2021.
Ruddy Narvaez was speeding June 22, 2021, when he ran a red light and struck a car turning left onto Bay Avenue from Ninth Street in Ocean City.
The passenger in the other car, 66-year-old John D. Andrews, was taken to Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, where he died from his injuries.
A 48-year-old Somers Point man who also a passenger in the car that was struck sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Narvaez was sentenced last week, and taken into custody.
He had been free pending sentencing. While on release, Narvaez was ticketed in Galloway Township for unsafe operation of a vehicle. He was going 20 to 24 mph over the speed limit Nov. 11, 2022, on Ridgewood Avenue, according to the court record.
“This case underscores the serious consequences of reckless driving and our commitment to holding offenders accountable," Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said. "We hope this sentence serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior on our roadways.”
The Ocean City Police Department led the initial investigation, with crash analysis completed by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office’s Fatal Crash Unit.
