Atlantic City man who helped officer then arrested for attacking victim

  • Crime-Courts

An Atlantic City man who offered a police officer help with a medical call turned to be the assailant, according to charges.

Ruben Carlo helped Officer Christopher Campbell when he responded to Tennessee and Atlantic avenues just after 8 p.m. Saturday, for a man in need of medical attention.

The victim was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus.

But the investigation that followed found that, after the man fell to the ground, Carlo approached and went through the man's pockets, Capt. Kevin Fair said.

Video from the Surveillance Center also found that Carlo stomped on the man before going through his pockets again, Fair said.

Carlo, 31, was then found by Officers William Harned and Kyle Bender in the 1900 block of Atlantic Avenue.

He initially resisted arrest, but was quickly taken into custody.

Carlo is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on charges of robbery, aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
