Pleasantville man arrested with gun in Atlantic City shooting

  • Crime-Courts

A Pleasantville man wanted in an August shooting was arrested with a gun, Atlantic City police said.

Juan Maldonado, 43, has been wanted since Aug. 18, the day after a man was wounded in the 100 block of North Georgia Avenue.

Officer Michael Regalbuto saw Maldonado on a bike in the 2500 block of Pacific Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Capt. Kevin Fair said.

Maldonado tried to flee on the bike, according to the report. Officers Moustafa Maarouf, Aidan Richardson and Glen Robinson assisted Regalbuto in attempting to arrest Maldonado.  After apprehending him, Maldonado actively resisted arrest and was attempting to reach toward his waistband area before the officers were able to get him in custody, Fair said.

A loaded handgun was found in the area where he was reaching, according to the report.

Maldonado was also in possession of five bags of heroin, according to separate charges.

Maarouf, Richardson and Robinson all received medical treatment for minor injuries sustained during the arrest.

Maldonado was supposed to have his first court appearance Monday, but refused to come down, according to the court.

He has a detention hearing set for Wednesday.

He is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of heroin, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
