An Atlantic City man faces 25 years in prison after admitting to a fatally stabbing a New York man last year.
Julio Felix Vazquez-Dones, 38, was captured on surveillance video armed with a golf club and a knife chasing 31-year-old Jewel Lonons.
Police called to the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue at about 5 a.m. July 8, found Lonon dead.
Vazquez-Dones' previously claimed he was defending his family after the victim had banged on the window of Carmine's, the restaurant where he worked that is owned by his in-laws, according to information presented at his detention hearing last year.
Lonon allegedly banged on the glass of the restaurant to the point of cracking it.
It was believed the victim had a gun, defense attorney Lauren Musarra claimed at that hearing.
But Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy questioned how an armed man would not have used his weapon while being attacked with a knife.
Vazquez-Dones pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter Wednesday, also admitting to discarding his clothes and weapon after the fatal attack.
He faces 25 years in prison with 85 percent, or 21 years and three months, of parole ineligibility under the No Early Release Act.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 12 before Superior Court Judge Pam D’Arcy on March 12, 2025.
