A block-long section of the Boardwalk will be closed to all pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicle traffic this coming week to accommodate emergency repairs of the wooden way.
The Boardwalk will be closed between Cornwall and Derby avenues Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 9-11 as crews replace the supports and decking of the deteriorating boardwalk.
The closure follows a one-day repair of the Boardwalk on Aug. 28.
The aging boardwalk, built in 1962, is in need of major structural repairs, which officials estimate will cost as much as $26 million. The state recently awarded the city a $7.1 million Boardwalk Preservation Grant, which will be used to rebuild the most deteriorating section of the boardwalk before 2026.
