Reasons for Glock 47 MOS's Logical Progression

  • News from our partners

The Glock 47 is a full-size handgun that is essentially the same as the Glock 17 thanks to Glock's extension of the G45 idea.

The U.S. law enforcement weapons industry was completely turned upside down when Glock handguns were introduced in the 1980s. Before this, the most common police sidearm was a revolver. Certain departments did permit semi-auto handguns; the options were often a single or double pistol with a hefty initial trigger pull followed by a single action trigger for follow-up rounds, or a Model 1911 carried "cocked and locked." Glocks provided an alternative.

Because the Glock lacked an external mechanical safety, it was faster to fire and made it simpler to learn the principles of marksmanship because of its steady trigger pull from the first shot to the last. Furthermore, the Glock used a great deal of contemporary polymer materials in the magazine and frame, which was almost unheard of at the time. Another feature that established a new standard was the magazine capacity, which varied from model to model but was nonetheless remarkable at 17 rounds.

At first, a lot of people both within and outside the gun community disapproved of the rifle. Some even said that the Glock will become the preferred weapon of choice for criminals and hijackers worldwide and that it could be readily smuggled past metal detectors at airports. In reality, the Glock became a standard issue for military personnel, law enforcement personnel, security personnel, and civilian enthusiasts worldwide.

Evolutionary modifications

Over time, Glock handguns have undergone a number of evolutionary modifications. A "generation" is assigned to each alteration.

A few years later, Gen 2 firearms replaced Gen 1 weapons, the first imports into the United States. The more forceful grip texture was the primary difference between Gens 1 and 2.

Finger grooves were added to the front strap of Gen 3 pistols, and a flashlight attachment hole was included into the frame dust cover.

New recoil spring technology and a magazine release that could be shifted to the pistol's left or right side were features of Gen 4 weapons. Glock's pin-on backstrap mechanism was also added to Gen 4 firearms to better fit shooters with big hands. Simply remove the trigger housing pin, slide the selected backstrap onto the frame, and use the longer trigger housing pin that comes with the insert to secure it in place. This makes attaching the inserts simple.

The most recent version of the rifle, Gen 5, removed the finger grooves that were added in Gen 3 and added an ambidextrous Glock MOS slide release. Additional improvements to Gen 5 firearms include what Glock refers to as the "marksman barrel" and a slightly flared magazine well for simpler reloading. The marksman barrel, according to Glock, provides better accuracy with a larger range of ammunition.

The Glock 47

The Glock 19 mid-sized handgun with a 4.00" barrel and the vintage Glock 17 full-sized duty pistol with a 4.49" barrel are two of the sizes of Glock Gen 5 handguns that are available. Since the beginning, these two have been a constant in Glock's lineup.

The Glock 17 and Glock 19 are now being combined by Glock to create the Glock 45. The G45 is a crossover gun that sits on top of the longer Glock 17 frame and utilizes the Glock 19's 5.00" barrel and slide. The Glock 47 is the result of Glock's extension of the G45 idea. The Glock 47 is a full-size handgun with the same dimensions as the Glock 17, but it utilizes the Glock 19's recoil spring instead.

For Glock's MOS (modular optical system) optics attachment plates, the G47 slide is chopped. The MOS adapter plates are available for the majority of popular dot optics and mount between the slide and optic. Plates are offered by Forward Controls Design, CHPWS, Radian Weapons, and Glock as an OEM supplier. The internal parts compatibility of the Glock 47 with the Glock 19 and 45 contributes to its allure. When standard components will do, why create special pieces for different models? Utilizing as many common components as you can expedite shipping and make assembly easier.

Although it is a relatively new addition to Glock's commercial lineup, the Glock 47 has been in production for a number of years. Initially, only a few federal law enforcement organizations were allowed to purchase it: the United States Border Patrol (USBP) was one of them. The Heckler and Koch P2000 and USP handguns that USBP had been using have been replaced with the Glock 47. The Gen 5 handguns from Glock are completely updated iterations of the classic design that ignited a new movement around thirty years ago. With these new Gen 5 weapons, Glock is probably going to be at the top for a few more decades.

An owner's handbook, a cable lock, three magazines, and a plastic magazine loading tool are included with the Glock G47. Large and medium beavertail backstrap inserts are installed on the gun ships.

How do normal iron sights and reflex optics vary from one another?

Reflex Optics: You may concentrate on the target and dot alignment by looking through the reticle. Optical sights are become more and more popular among target shooters and home defense enthusiasts, as well as in competition shooting.

Standard Sights: The front sight must be sharply focused upon when the rear and front sights are aligned.

Reduced MOS

Adapter Plates are not required for the Slimline MOS pistol models since their slide cuts are made for certain micro-optics.

One MOS adaptor plate is now included with basic MOS GLOCK pistol models in typical MOS configuration. Except for the 509, the adapter plate that comes with the package fits the following: Holosun®, Ameriglo®, and Trijicon®.
